The colors are generated by
Word Color, a
small executable program with an algorithm that creates a Hex "color" of a
word using Google image search. While there seems to be an inordinately
large number of brown hues, using other languages seems to generate a
livelier palette.
One of the fun features of the program is the 9x9 image block, to which
each entry above points. Each block contains the top nine images found by
the Google search. They are the luck of the draw indeed. While I didn't
censor any of the images, I found that using obscure versions of the
numbers, or the number in another language, generated less salacious
images. Google, being a populist-oriented engine, often reflects a common
denominator, ie, the most viewed, which appears to be nekid people.
I would love to see a Word Color type program that draws from
flickr image tags.
